The Lonely Polygamist

I admire someone who can write a sentence like this one:

"He stepped closer to her and felt a drop in temperature; Beverly was a woman whose moods held sway over the immediate atmosphere, who seemed to be in control of everything, including the weather."

A semi-colon and 2 commas and a long flowing sentence that said what this character was all about.

Do you learn this type of poetry in words in school or does it just come naturally to some people?

I admire the writing style of Brady Udall. I'm going to enjoy reading this book "The Lonely Polygamist".
